Across Botswana, many patients still travel long distances or endure extended waiting periods to access specialist surgical care. For countless families, timely access to surgery can mean the difference between recovery and prolonged suffering, hope and uncertainty.
The Botswana Surgical Society (BSS) was conceptualised in 2011 and formally registered as a professional body in 2016. BSS is a non-profit professional organisation comprising surgeons and healthcare professionals dedicated to advancing surgical care, medical education, healthcare collaboration and community outreach across Botswana.
Through Continuing Medical Education, Surgical Outreach Programmes and healthcare advocacy, the Society works to strengthen surgical services while bringing specialist care closer to underserved communities.
